There are various ways North East Victoria can be reached. The area is accessible by plane, rail, bus or car. From Sydney a plane can be taken to Albury and from there towns like Beechworth, Yackandandah and Bright are only a stones throw away. Melbourne on the other hand is three hours by car or train. There are three airlines that fly in and out of Albury, which is the closest airport to access the area of North East Victoria. Cycling Activities and Hiking Opportunities There are an abundance of activities. Picturesque valleys provide endless opportunities of walks and drives. Then there is the ‘rail trail’, which is the old rail line turned into a cycle way. It is about seventy kilometers from Wangaratta to Bright. Since it is the old rail trail there are very few ‘steep’ bits in this ride and it can be enjoyed by most levels of fitness. A bus service can take bikes and persons back to Wangaratta or once one has recovered energy levels with an overnight stay in Bright a return journey on the bike can be contemplated. The perfect time for such an adventures is autumn as the air temperature is perfect with the days not getting too hot. The Victorian snow fields are also within easy reach by car and are well worth exploring with or without snow. The views from Mount Hotham are spectacular. Fine Wine and Food Trails to Explore Other things to explore are the wineries and local produce outlets. Sprinkled along the Ovens Valley are boutique wineries that have beautiful mountains as backdrops. A fine glass of wine can be enjoyed whilst taking in the breathtaking views. To top it of there is the Milawa cheese factory which produces delicious camembert, blue brie and goats cheese. Next door there is an art gallery and chocolate shop to cater to everyone’s needs. Boutique Breweries to Tantalize the Taste Buds Beechworth and Bright are home to boutique breweries. Both brew a range of beers that are of award winning quality. Picking out Accommodation from Bed and Breakfasts to Self Contained Luxury Apartments The old gold town Beechworth offers accommodation at the top end to camping. There old historic Bed and Breakfast places, motels, self contained units and a camping ground next to the lake. Bright, which is sixty kilometers from Bright at the foot of Mount Hotham offers similar accommodation. The area caters for tourists and looks after them. Everything on offer from the food, to the entertainment and the wine is top class. A Picturesque Place to Relax and Unwind from City Life or Just Come and Explore At the end of the day the area offers something for every visitor. Old gold towns steeped in history, food and wine trails to explore, mountains to climb, cycle tracks to find or a place to come to relax and unwind and recharge batteries that may have run down from the stresses and strains of city living.
