The Gold Coast is home to marvellous beaches, theme parks and numerous attractions. Yet it also has the most breathtaking mountain views and stunning natural habitats.

Mention Queensland’s famous Gold Coast and the images that immediately spring to mind include warm golden sand on beaches that stretch along the eastern shores, with crystal blue ocean and rolling waves to entice surfers and sunbathers.

Yet to the west, secreted away in the Gold Coast Hinterland lies Tamborine Mountain. With a subtropical to temperate climate, it is a plateau borne of a lava flow from the Mt Warning volcano, some 22 million years ago. It is about 8 kms long, 5 kms wide and approximately 600 metres above sea level.

Tamborine Mountain is a Short Drive From Brisbane and From the Gold Coast

Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane, lies about one hour’s drive to the north of Tamborine Mountain. From Surfers Paradise, on the Gold Coast, it takes only about 45 minutes inland to drive up the windy scenic roads.

Commune With Nature and Sight Koalas, Wallabies, Birdlife and More

Tamborine Mountain provides an immense variety of flora and fauna. The National Parks boast creeks and waterfalls with stands of Piccabeen Palms, towering Fig Trees with Elkhorns and Staghorns. Introduced species of flora include the colourful Jacaranda and Bougainvillea.

There are 9 sections of National Parks to enjoy. Picnic facilities are provided and walking trails provide visitors with the opportunity to sight a range of animal and bird life including the Albert Lyrebird, Brush Turkeys, the colourful Rainbow Lorikeets, King Parrots, and Rosellas. Bower Birds, Whip Birds, Butcher Birds and Magpies lend musical cheer to the sounds of the rainforests.

Inhabiting the forest floors are the likes of Bandicoots, and Wallabies. Platypus live in the Mountain creeks. Look to the treetops to sight Koalas and Possums. An array of butterflies provide a splash of colour against the lush green backdrop and a variety of frogs keep time to nature’s heartbeat.
