How to Make the Most of your Cairns Holiday

Visiting Tropical North Queensland? Make sure the following ten things are on that list of things to do.

When heading to Australia for a holiday, it was be next to impossible to decide what to see and what to do while over there. For those heading to Tropical North Queensland, including Townsville and Cairns, then be sure to check out these top ten must-do’s in the area.

Top Three

1. Visit Paronella Park. Voted as the top attraction in Queensland by RACQ, Paronella Park is a natural wonder away from the city. Nestled in the rain forest, Paronella Park takes tourists and locals into the world of lakeside tunnels, picnic areas, garden galore and an awe inspiring castle.

2. Cairns Sky Rail Take a gondola through the rainforest where tourists will overlook stunning views of the city, the ocean and surroundings. The sky rail ends in Kuranda, a quaint local town with plenty of shops, eateries and tourist attractions.

3. Cruise the Reef. The best places to embark on the Great Barrier Reef adventure is Cairns or Port Douglas. Various sail boats and other cruise ships offer long days in the sun as tourists visit sand quays where they can swim, snorkel and dive among the incredible colors of the corals and creatures of the sea. Most boats offer drinks, tea and a full buffet lunch as well. Bring that camera and sun screen for a day like no other.

4. Port Douglas for the Day. For those staying in Cairns, a great day trip is to Port Douglas, a beautiful little beach town filled with lovely shops, delicious restaurants, five star resorts and spas and beaches galore. The drive up is an experience in itself with incredible ocean views along a winding highway

5. The Undara Experience. For those who want to experience the outback, the Undara Experience is a great option. Three hours into the heart of the outback, the Undara Experience features magnificent caves, camping and unique accommodation in an old rail car. Join the locals for a good ol’ fashion Queensland BBQ in the rustic outdoors after a day exploring the desert sand and natural wonder.

6. Visit Cape Trib. Cape Tribulation is quintessential Queensland where the rainforest meets the reef. Enjoy the warm nights, deserted sandy beaches and incredible wildlife. Just be aware of crocodiles!

7. Live the Resort Lifestyle. For an extra special treat, visit one of the many Tropical North resorts located on various beaches, including Palm Cove, Trinity Beach and Mission Beach and well as nestled deep within the rainforest. There are even resorts on the surrounding islands such as Fitzroy, Dunk and Green Island. Take advantage of the delicate dishes, the heavenly spa treatments and the romantic surroundings.

8. White Water Raft the Tully River. For those looking for an adventure this holiday, white water rafting on the Tully River can certainly satisfy that adventurous tooth.

9. Jump the Beach. Another great option for those looking to really maximize their visit is to sky dive on Mission Beach. There’s no better way to see the reef than when jumping out of a plane onto it.

10. Wine and Dine on the Beach. There are so many delicious bars and restaurants in Tropical North Queensland. One of the best options is the Pier in Cairns where locals can enjoy a bottle of wine (or two) and choose from several incredible restraints all with harbor views.
