Urunga is a haven to the travel weary! Halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, it is a perfect stop on your North Coast of Australia holiday!

Nestled off the Pacific Highway six hours from Sydney and five hours from Brisbane, Urunga is unique. Located on the "Coffs Coast", it provides a perfect opportunity for families or friends to relax, unwind in picturesque and tranquil settings.

Urunga comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “Long White Sands”. Golden beaches, glistening turquoise and aqua waterways, evergreen forests abound in this area of Australia. With the combined mix of country and seaside attractions – unspoilt is another word that comes to mind.

Urunga is a boating and fishing enthusiast's dream with both the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers available to explore. Swimming and surfing are priorities with Hungry Head providing patrolled beaches during the summer and peak holiday periods. Snorkling and water skiing are also popular throughout the year.

Urunga has an excellent variety of shops, restaurants, a historic hotel and a range of sporting activities. These include lawn bowls, golf, tennis, squash, snooker and paddle boat hire. It is an area where one can be as adventurous or as relaxed as desired.

Other activities surrounding Urunga include bushwalking or mountain bike riding through the nearby forests and horseback riding. Explore the local art & crafts stores. Visit Raleigh Winery for a superb variety of local wines or take one of the many walks throughout the area.

Visit historic Dorrigo and Bellingen, along the way experience the beautiful valleys, river views, waterfalls and rainforest as you drive up Dorrigo Mountain. This is the start of a longer drive to Armidale called “The Waterfall Way”.

Come and see Anchor’s Wharf Café located next to the beautiful Kalang River (under the main bridge off the Pacific Highway). Hire a boat or a paddleboat – there is something for everyone. The fishing is apparently superb all year round.

Urunga is a perfect stop for a holiday or a well-earned rest on your trip. There are a wonderful variety of eateries from walk cafes, take away shops and fine dining. There is regular entertainment at the towns clubs, or enjoy a night of entertainment at the historic pub.

There are some beautiful parks and areas for families to stop over and relax. Most parks have seating, amenities and are safe for children of all ages. You can sit on the banks of the beautiful river, bathe in the glorious sun, or sit amidst ancient trees overlooking the beach.
